Cheeky Gin is a project to help new members of Clontarf Yacht & Boat Club to learn to sail as soon as they join the club! The boat is sponsored by the CY&BC IDRA 14 class and is a very hands-on and inexpensive way to become a competent sailor within your first year.
Each year the class makes IDRA 14/142 ‘Cheeky Gin’ available to charter for a group of new members, normally a group of 4-5, giving them their own boat with none of the hassle.
As part of this group, with lots of help and encouragement from fellow IDRA sailors, you have exclusive use of 'Cheeky Gin' for the season, you’ll also be added to the Cheeky Gin group where you will have access to highly qualified coaches available to give lessons helping to accelerate your learning.
'Cheeky Gin' is maintained by the class but participants are also invited to join in on maintenance and repairs if they would like to learn new skills and what exactly goes into the boats.
The Cheeky Gin project has been a great success with a number of people graduating to their very own IDRA 14 and now actively sailing or racing in the club.

"I enjoyed the adult intro to sailing in CY&BC, and wanted to do more sailing, but wasn't sure about making a huge investment into buying a boat at such an early stage. Cheeky gin gave me all the benefits of owning a boat, with the addition of advice and support from other IDRA members on rigging and sailing.
