Swift is a recently renovated IDRA 14 that is sailed by a group of youth sailors aged between 18-25 years at CY&BC. It was bought in bad condition a few years ago, and was made into a speedy, race-ready boat thanks to the incredible work of a handful of CY&BC IDRA 14 'Shedlings'.
Inside the hull
Initial investigation work to see what needed repair inside the hull
Deck that we originally thought we could save
Centreboard capping was in good condition, we could save that
Transom needed a lot of work and had split from hull
Deck King Plank
It turned out that the deck could not be saved
A salvaged beam complete with copper pipe through it was salvaged from a skip by two Shedlings. This was planed down and became the King plank.
Fitting the King Plank. This wood was originally in the CYBC clubhouse roof.
Reality set in and the deck could not be saved. It was removed and went in the bin, The 'Shedlings' went to the bar to decide where they could get money for a new deck.
Deck supports were replaced
New deck was cut and dry fitted
Original combings were re-attached to the hull
The combing was attached using every clamp that could be borrowed from any member of CYBC.
The 'Shedlings' documented this milestone of having the deck and combings fitted.
Transom transformation template was cut using veneer while matching the grain.
The veneer was attached to the transom
Transom transformation prior to name decals being fitted
Mast gets a wash down prior to fitting
Swifties giving the mast a scrub
Cleaning the mast track
Transom complete with logo that was specially designed by a Swiftie
Deck finished - complete with resin and varnish
Two Shedlings went skip diving and salvaged this beam which was planed down to size. Swift's king plank is a reclaimed piece of timber beam from the CYBC original roof.
