14/166 Wicked Sadie

166 was a project that was undertaken by a group of enthusiasts at Clontarf Yacht & Boat club. A wooden IDRA hadn't been built in decades! The project started in February of 2013 finishing in 2016 and has been recorded photographically and in a series of updates which are available below.

A group led by Ronan Melling of CY&BC have built and finished a new wooden IDRA 14 the first new wooden hulled boat for decades. They sourced the timber from Stones boatyard in Salcombe, Devon, UK - (the timber is Sitka spruce of Canadian origin). The boat was built in the boatshed in Clontarf Yacht & Boat club. Sail no 14/166 has been allocated to this boat.

The group are very grateful for the support from the Mermaid Class in Rush Sailing Club who have been most helpful in the setting up of this project and sourcing suitable timber. (The team in Rush launched four new clinker built “Mermaids” in 2012).
