IDRA 14. The first Irish national dinghy class

The IDRA14 Class has a long and proud history within the story of Irish Sailing. The first IDRA 14s were launched in the summer of 1946, with the first races being held in Dun Laoghaire and Clontarf. Within the next five years, fleets were set up in various locations—the main ones being in Dublin (DunLaoghaire / Clontarf / Sutton & Kilbarrack), Cork Harbour, Athlone, and Waterford). In its heyday the class could boast 25 boats on the startline of its National Championship!

Project IDRA14 2030 aims to increase the number of active IDRA14 boat owners over the next 4 to 5 years. Interested members of our base clubs, CY&BC, SDC, and any of the 4 clubs in Dúnlaoighre, will be connected to current boatowners no longer sailing who wish to see their boat passed to someone interested in getting the boat back on the water to race and have fun with the rest of the class.
